Yet another performance from one of country’s most talented singer, Shibani Kashyap is set to perform live for the music launch of Studio 18 presentation, Amrit Sagar’s forthcoming film, 1971 at INS Vikrant for which she has composed and sung couple of songs including the title track. The movie is based on a band of 6 soldiers who try to flee from a Pakistani camp and return to their homeland and stars actors like Manoj Bajpai, Ravi Kishan, Chitaranjan Giri, Kumud Mishro and Manav Kaul. After a roller coaster ride with teen music director Akash Sagar, Shibani is finally relieved the day she had been awaiting for has finally arrived and is quite upbeat about performing on a number ‘Sehlenge Hum ‘ from the film.

But what sets this music launch apart from the other ones is its exotic location. The launch is scheduled to take place on the 28th at INS Vikrant. This location has been chosen to link it with the movie theme as this ship had gone to war in 1971, so it was considered an ideal location to organize the event.

Shibani, who was recently nominated as the best upcoming music director in the Stardust Awards this year, is now looking forward to making some good quality music and working with the best in the industry. San Francisco to Chicago – 4 hour flight. Only one music album – Namastey London! So the songs better be good. Well before you start thinking what am I talking about, let’s get straight to business. Yes, music of Namastey London is good. Having said that, I must add, not all songs are good but the ones which are good can keep you glued for hours. ‘Chakna Chakna’, ‘Main Jahan Rahoon’ and ‘Yahi Hota Pyaar’ can be continuously played in repeat mode.

On one hand, Namastey London has successful combination of Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah (actor-director combination of Aankhen and Waqt), while on the other hand Javed Akhtar pairs up with Himesh Reshammiya for the first time. Another new aspect of this album is that as many as four songs have 3 versions each (original, remix, and mehfil mix), while the remaining three songs have 2 versions each (original, remix) – so, in total you have 18 tracks. Mehfil mix has Javed Akhtar reciting poetry in his distinct style. Not many would disagree that the Mehfil mix versions of these songs are better than the original ones. However, I wonder how would they be picturized in the movie, if at all. We’ll have to wait and watch.

Chakna Chakna justifies it’s billing at the top. Certainly the best song of Namastey London, it’s already topping all music charts. Himesh Reshammiya sings this fun Punjabi sufi-bhangra-pop fusion song brilliantly. Picturized on Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, remix version is even better. Here’a trailer of this song for you.
