Padmashree Mohanlal is now Lt. Colonel Mohanlal. His wish to enter the battalion has finally succeded. On Thursday, July 9th, 2009 he was commisioned into the Territorial army by army chief General Deepak Kapoor. As he is 49 years old there were certain difficulties for him to become a part of the Territorial army. The upper age limit for the post is 42 years old. It was a tough task as the officials at the highest level had to authorize his post.
The actor first showed interest in joining the Territorial army at October 2008. After playing two important roles of a Major in Keerthichakra and Lt. Colonel in Kurukshethra he was very keen to get the post. So, with the help of Major Ravi, the director of both the movies, he forwarded all the papers needed for processing.
Major Ravi was a former cammando in the NSG. Due to his extreme passion for movies he decided to leave the army and work as a director. He was one of the main officers who helped to kill Sivarasan, the main person who murdered Rajiv Gandhi.
Apart from Mohanlal, Nana Patekar, the Hindi film actor and veteran Indian cricketer Kapil Dev are also a part of the Territorial army.
We all hope that Mohanlal can be of great help to the Army and will use his position for all the good deeds possible.
